How did you come
up with the idea for Karma Slave? How did you decide that it would make
a good comic? (from Wendylette)
I got the idea for Karma
Slave while listening to the song of the same name, by Splashdown.
These
are the lyrics. If you've never heard the song, try to find
it sometime--it's a great song. :B Also the leader singer's voice is how
I imagine Sattva's voice. XD Here
in fact is a general soundtrack for Karma Slave (which is constantly
being added to in my brain)
Also, there's a big Buddhist
influence in general, obviously. The dharma-pala are an eight-god
pantheon from Tibetan Buddhism, but I admittedly play fast and loose with
the mythos. In addition, Kuruma and Mayavada are both buddhist concepts
given physical form, and Sattva's name is from the term bodhisattva, which
are Buddhist saints/angels.
Is KS intended to be an
ongoing webcomic (like MegaTokyo and Penny Arcade) or is there a set storyline
with a definite beginning and end? (from Mikomi)
I don't generally like stories
that go on forever, so, yes, there's a definite beginning and end.
I think the premise lends itself well to a 'gag a day' strip, at least
at first, but I am fond of Character Development and Plot (the former more
than the latter really). Though to be honest I expected to be finished
by now... I'd say I'm at the halfway point, unless somebody does something
unexpected (which could happen >_>).
What's this comic rated?
(besides S for Suck, har har)
I'd say PG-13, because it's
got naughty language and sometimes folks are dying/aren't wearing all their
clothes. It's all very poorly drawn though, so no need to worry about
anything explicit.
What is the worst criticism
you've received on KS, how did it make you feel and what did you respond
with? (from Mikomi)
I think we can all guess
the answer to this one. X3 Yeah, I've been told the art's poor, which is
a little painful but it's the truth. I know the art of KS is subpar
compared to most webcomics, because I'm much more of a writer than an artist.
But I love writing, I love comics, and drawing makes me happy, so I thought
I would give a comic a shot anyway. I know I'm not a good artist,
but I hope you'll read the comic anyway, or at least give it a fair chance--I
think I've improved at least somewhat since starting KS, and I hope to
continue improving, though I know the process and my progress is frustratingly
slow.
What media do you use?
Whatever pens and paper I
can find lying around, usually. I try to color mostly with Prismacolors,
but it's really a mix of Prismas, Crayolas, and a watercolor brand named
Gallery that I received as a gift one time... I just use whatever's handy,
basically. :3;
Why are updates so infrequent?
ARE YOU LETTING THE COMIC DIE?
Weelll I'm a college student,
and I don't have a scanner in my dorm room, so I can only scan pages when
I go home. I try to go home every other weekend, and to be honest
at home is the only place I really get pages done anyway. It takes
many hours to complete even my sad little comic pages, and I just don't
have the time/energy while I'm at school usually. -_- I fully intend to
see this comic to its grisly conclusion, however.
Where can I find more
of your hideous, hideous work? :D
Why, over at kurai.com,
of course! (conveniently linked everywhere on these pages). I'm primarily
a writer, and my other two main projects are lengthy written stories (one
is a crazy original thing and one is a crazy sailormoon/seiken densetsu
type thing).
If you have a question, feel
free to ask. (be sure
to delete the 'remove' bit X3)
